The sticks and stones that we encounter
Through out our weary lives
They break our bones and give us bruises
But at least it stays outside
Because the words that get thrown around
Go more than skin deep
They get inside and find our heart
And then they decide to sink in
Doing more damage than a stick or a stone
More than you will ever know
Because what hurts the most are the injuries
That go more
Than skin deep
The broken bones and bruises
Are easy things to heal
A broken heart or feeling hurt
Are things a doctor just can’t cure
Because the words that get thrown around
Go more than skin deep
They get inside and find our heart
And then they decide to sink in
Doing more damage than a stick or a stone
More than you will ever know
Because what hurts the most are the injuries
That go more
Than skin deep
You always feel sorry
For a person in a cast
But the one in the corner all alone
Is the one that you walk past
Some injuries aren’t visible
To just a naked eye
The invisible wounds are the ones
That a hug, might be able to fix
Because the words that get thrown around
Go more than skin deep
They get inside and find our heart
And then they decide to sink in
Doing more damage than a stick or a stone
More than you will ever know
Because what hurts the most are the injuries
That go more
Than skin deep
